You wouldn’t have heard the modem noises at all after establishing a connection.
Plus, I wouldn’t have seen the color graphics because my Commodore-64 was connected to an amber(!) monitor (I think from Zenith?).
Lastly, some BBSes would use CLRSCRN — ala a VT52 terminal — to present a new screenful of information, not scrolling.
Still, all that brought back memories!
