Nokia Android?

Nokia! If Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates calls Microsoft’s Smartphone Strategy ‘Clearly’ A Mistake and one that ‘Doesn’t allow us to get the leadership’ Why Do You Think It Is Working?

I think it is inevitable that Nokia (in whatever form it may exist) will abandon Windows Phone soon and then its obvious option is Android (would have been MeeGo).

That would basically wind up as a battle between Nokia and Samsung.

Nokia certainly has hardware engineering excellence.

But would they jump into Android without being a close partner with Google to the extent of producing a Google-blessed Nexus phone?

Nexus devices are vanilla Android, so that would exclude any software additions Nokia might want to slather over Android (as Samsung does with TouchWiz).

Moving to Android would be a huge embarrassment for Microsoft.

It would also remove the reason Nokia has had for keeping Elop too.

I’m putting this post here to start a countdown clock. Let’s see how long it takes for this to happen.

I had no idea how bad Nokia has fallen since 2010.

I’m surprised there’s no intense coverage on this since it is quite newsworthy. I remember all the hoopla around New Coke and Nokia has the same brand recognition as Coke.

I work at a technical college and I’m amazed at our computing science department mindset. They all LOVE Windows Phones and try to push it on the students. The students merely laugh while they type away on Androids or iPhones. I have not seen any student with a Windows Phone. It’s mostly the other two with an occasional blackberry.

The only person giving it in-depth — and relentless — coverage has been Ahonen. He’s a Nokia diehard and has documented the way Elop has systematically ruined that company. Nokia in many ways has only itself to blame for the situation that led to Elop being hired, however.

I would be less surprised to discover one day that Elop was paid millions by Google and/or Apple to ruin Nokia than to believe Elop is as stupid as he has acted.
