Robert Hegyes, who played Juan Epstein on ’70s sitcom “Welcome Back, Kotter, died Thursday, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports. Hegyes, who died of an apparent heart attack after suffering chest pains at his Metuchen, New Jersey home, was 60.

Hegyes had not been in good health for the past two years, his brother Mark Hegyes told the paper. The actor had suffered a previous heart attack in recent years.

Ah, Welcome Back, Kotter was a very, very strange sitcom. I loved it. And who could ever forget Juan Epstein?

If you’ve ever seen the movie Pi, the TV series Early Edition from America and the BBC TV series Paradox, then you’ve already seen this TV series.

Except, I swear to God!, even with its cat, Early Edition — and the rest — never, ever laid it on as thick and as treacly as this one hour did!

While I appreciated all the threads in this script and the masterful way they were all connected and the rat-a-tat-tat of resolution, dear god — spoiler ahead — the two final resolutions between father and son invited suffocation for what that script asked the audience to swallow!

Pi, which set the stage for everything else, I loved.

Despite all the problems it had, I also loved Early Edition.

And despite the fact the audience thought otherwise and it went to a very quick death, I loved Paradox.

Touch, I did not love.

It’s ordinary TV’s impoverished idea of being extraordinary.

I will give it one more episode. And that is me being very, very generous.

He found out about iBooks Author by accident and has done two videos about it.

This first one I had to do myself. I ripped his longer video and trimmed it down to the demo of the finished book. I had to. There were six minutes of non-book material preceding it and WordPress now ignores the code to jump to the relevant bit in the video.

There was something odd about that book. Did you notice it?

The cover is color. The interior illustrations are uncolored. That’s still thinking in print. Color pixels are free!

You will not need a developer to create a digital book.

Notice had he immediately jumped in to do this book with iBooks Author. Notice how there is no ePub version of that book, despite him having a Mac and Pages. It was only iBooks Author that let him jump in and do it.

This year is going to be very interesting for digital books and xBooks.

Glimpse is the single webOS program that made me lust for an HP TouchPad (outside of the Cards, general multitasking, and UI).
