“Then another director, he was so rude all the time – he was molestering [sic] people, I thought – and I was with my little girl, and he started digging me up at a party. And I give it ‘im an’ all, he got it.” He grins, then shrugs philosophically. “But it’s all part of growing up I guess.” I wonder what his wife said. “Well, Elaine was with me. She said, have you finished now? She said we’d best go now. And she drove us home.” She sounds remarkably sanguine, I laugh. “Well, yeah, I guess she’s seen a bit.” He chuckles fondly. “Not any more, thank God.” So she wouldn’t have said, Ray, we’ve got to pay the rent – sort yourself out? “No,” he smiles with undisguised pride. “She’d usually join in.”
