Palm’s amazingly user-hostile sign-up process
I’d heard a little about the steps required to use the original Palm Pre years ago.
But I had no idea it was this bad.
This is just so wrong. People want to play with their devices immediately, not have to basically take a test before they can use them!
This reminds me of the old hell people used to go through to set up their VCRs. Setting the time always defeated them due to poor UI and the machine would forever blink 12:00.
HP needs to drastically change this for the new Veer, Pre 3, and especially HP TouchPad.
I have no desire to sync my personal information — Calendar, Contacts, To-Dos, Memos — to any Cloud service. I think many people will want non-Cloud use of their TouchPad too, so HP had better take that into account!
You don’t have to use the cloud service if you don’t want to. Just don’t provide your personal information over and above yoru email. Although, of course you will be missing the point then. The amalgomation of all your emails and acocunts in one screen is what the WebOS does better than anyone else and is one of its strongest USPs. If you don’t like that, stick with the iPad (and provide your personal information to Apple only) or the Androind tablets (and provide your information to Google only).
