I think this is Sony being viral. I don’t think this was shot at a screening theater. I think this was taken off a super-HD TV/monitor.
I’ve seen this probably over twenty times. It’s a masterful work of editing and whoever did it, I salute you.
My curiosity got the better of me one viewing and I started to count the cuts. I was amazed. Then today I got all anal and ran it slo-mo in VLC and snapped each cut. I didn’t go after key frames, so some might be murky. And I hope I caught everything. I did this only once.
Let’s count the cuts together after the break!
Did you catch the shot that might be an easter egg?
Hmmm… what’s all that movie production equipment doing in that shot? Maybe they added a scene from the book that wasn’t in the Swedish version? Or perhaps I’m forgetting that scene?
Update June 1, 2001: Sony claims it wasn’t viral (yeah, right, with that great non-echo audio?) and has had the video pulled from YouTube. An “official” green band trailer is now up. Here it is:
They took out some violence, took out her naked legs, and took out the cigarette and smoking. But left in the trail of blood to her bathroom. Go figure. The ways of the MPAA are not to be fathomed.
Wow. You’ve been busy.
No. I’ve looked through these twice. Some of the scenes are quite dark so I couldn’t make those out.
They’re all clickable to like VGA size. I ripped the video from YouTube as an MP4 then played it in VLC. I don’t recall that “easter egg” in my regular viewings, but it doesn’t look like it’s fast action from that snap. I haven’t watched the trailer again yet. I think I did that for today. The entire post took about 2.5 hours. Could have had it done faster but since I did this unplanned, on a whim, I didn’t set up any damn automation or shortcuts.
You did a good job even on a whim. Will take off from work to go see it.
