The Big I Am

Mickey Skinner is a twenty-nine year-old loser and petty grifter beset on by all sides. Fleeing from assisting in a burglary he screwed up, his path intersects with a mobster marked for death, hidden in the trunk of the getaway car he’s just stolen. He has a chance to be a big man for once, to step up to The Big I Am. Can he pull it off or will he fuck it up like everything else he’s touched in life?

England makes the best balls-out crime fiction movies and though this one is rough, it’s worth the watching. Michael Masden’s performance alone will make you glad you did.

Dropp For iOS: Wow

What if you could leave a message for someone anyplace on Earth?

Dropp (and the rise of “MicroSocial”)

This is bloody genius!

Whenever writer Christopher Fowler does a post on his blog about a London spot or location he’s used in his Bryant & May series, I keep thinking, “Bloody hell. How will I remember that? And if I’m ever in London, I wouldn’t want to impose on Chris for a tour.”

Dropp is the answer. He could make Dropps that would alert me when I’m near one of those locations and I’d know.

And all those locations used in Rubicon that I posted about? If I had an iPhone, I could make Dropps so people would know when they’ve hit such a spot.

This is really exciting software. It layers intelligence over the world.

Browser Speeds

Firefox 4.x is the slowest goddammed thing I’ve ever used. I’m constantly cursing at my crap PC now because of how long it takes to build simple pages.

And it’s not my crap PC, either.

Because I’m typing this inside of Opera now. I decided to launch it again and, lo, there was an update to Opera 11.11.

And this thing is greased lightning!

I don’t know if this Opera update fixed all the issues that made me stop using it. But I’m going to give it a whirl for a while.

Thing is, all my damn bookmarks and RSS feeds are in Firefox now. On the other hand, I have my Speed Dial back.

And just plain speeeeeeeed too.

Update: Opera regenerated my damn Speed Dial. It’s not supposed to do that. With 282 Dials, it took about a frikkin half hour. It made a 40MB file that it expected to load every time I opened a Speed Dial tab. That’s just nuts. Once again, I resized all the 1024px-wide “thumbnails” down to 2##px wide. If you need to batch resize a bunch of PNGs fast, I recommend FastStone Photo Resizer. I downloaded and used it especially for this. It is Win.

Nook Touch Rooting: June 21st News

Note: All Nook Touch rooting news of this day will be consolidated into this single post, with any updates at the end.

Repeating yesterday’s big news: Nook Touch Rooting: Script Package!

Another big development that happened yesterday I didn’t mention. And it’s a good thing too, because it might have bricked your Nook Touch! We are on the verge of having an easy rooting process, finally!

TouchNooter is a package that creates a microSD card from which a Nook Touch can be rooted automagically just by popping in the card and turning on the device.

Currently, this method is broken, but follow this XDA Developers forum thread for progress.
