This Is New York City: Street Art

Photo taken today, Saturday July 16, 2011:

What differentiates street art from graffiti?

Street art has a purpose: to inform, to incite, or to amuse.

Graffiti is just your fucking illiterate and undecipherable hood tag slathered on a wall like a dog’s piss.

BELIEVE THATS A SHEPARD FAIREY; I’VE SEEN SIMILAR IMAGES IN/AROUND DOWNTOWN L.A.

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU REGARDING TAGGERS. EVERYTHING IN L.A. IS TAGGED UP. PEOPLE IN THE HOOD, BITCH ABOUT WHERE THEY LIVE AND HOW EVERYTHING WHERE THEY LIVE IS UGLY BUT THATS BECAUSE THEY DON’T TAKE CARE OF SHIT. WHENEVER THE CITY TRIES TO CLEAN UP A PARK OR PUT SOMETHING NICE FOR EXAMPLEIN MY OLD NEIGHBORHOODS OF WATTS AND SOUTH CENTRAL L.A., IT IMMEDIATELY GETS VANDALIZED. AND THE COMMUNITY DOESN’T DO ANYTHING TO STOP THESE PUNKS FROM VANDALISING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT. ITS A SHAME. I AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT RE: STREET ART VS GRAFFITI.
