Howard Stringer: Still Delusional

Movies Will Give Sony Tablets Edge: Stringer

“Yes, yes, Apple makes an iPad, but does it make a movie?” Sony Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer said in a presentation at Berlin’s annual consumer electronics fair yesterday. “We will prove that it’s not who makes the tablet first who counts but who makes it better.”

I have never seen one person say or think, “Ooh, a tablet! It’s a portable TV!”

There are far cheaper portable TV options than plunking US$500+ on a damn tablet! Hell, you can get a portable TV and disc player for less!

And why does Apple even have to make movies or TV? It can just license them! Is Sony going to withdraw its library? They wouldn’t be that stupid. Stringer would be ousted for that move.

“The tablet has to be significantly better than the iPad for consumers to want to buy it at that price point,” said Alexander Peterc, an analyst at Exane BNP Paribas.

And it’s not.
