Inscrutable Is Bad In Advertising

The Inscrutable Mad Men of Silicon Valley

Our demographic is people in their late 30s to early 50s. They grew up on Star Trek, Star Wars, and comic books. They respond to three basic things: power, visions of the future, and sex.

Are you out of your fucking mind?

Palm tried that shit with the original TV ads for the Pre. They went down in the biggest shitstorm of FAIL I’d ever seen for a major TV campaign.

People want to know, What’s in it for me?

If you’re not telling them that, you have no business being in advertising or marketing.

  1. “You can’t ignore it,”

    Actually, yes you can.

Sheesh. Those sound like the very definition of an ego ad.

  2. These sitcom ads on tv now, piss me off. Tell me what your product does and why I need it. Don’t give me a cutesy ad that I tune out.
