New New Twitter: Major Privacy Invasion

I popped out of Twitter to watch a video, then came back and look what changed:

Click = big

That Activity tab we heard about a while ago!

I don’t like this at all.

I think it’s an invasion of everyone’s privacy. Look:

Click = big

I can see who of my Followers has Added people to Follow or to put in a List, who they’ve Re-Tweeted, and what they’ve Favorited.

I don’t want to know this stuff. And I don’t want people to know it so damned easily for me.

I’ve never used Facebook because it does exactly this kind of thing.

What people do online in a service is their business until they overtly want to share it with me.

Twitter here is opening up everyone’s activity to everyone and I just don’t like that.

I’d like to see an Opt-Out of that Activity tab.

I’d be the first person to use it!

  1. I’m not sure I like this either, although I wouldn’t call it a major privacy invasion. Most people will dismiss your post with the thought that all this information was already there anyway, but you rightly point out that something different happens when available information is assembled and presented in a way that was less visible and harder to get at than before. I can’t tell you how hard I’ve struggled to get people to understand that in the past, but sadly it seems that most of them never do.

    Anyway this new tab makes us much more exposed on Twitter than we were before, and I agree it’s uncomfortable.
