Kindle In Public

Photographed this morning at the Winter Garden. I’ve seen her once before and ran another photo somewhere else (don’t ask me to find it!). That’s a Kindle 2.

R.I.P. Lynn Samuels, Talk Radio Host

Former WABC host Lynn Samuels dies Christmas Eve at 69

Years ago, when she was a left wing host on WABC, Lynn Samuels used to do a change-of-pace Christmas Eve show in which, among other things, she invited listeners to sing Christmas carols.

This year on Christmas Eve, Samuels died. She was 69.

No cause of death was immediately announced. Her body was discovered after she failed to report for her 10 a.m. Saturday show at Sirius XM radio and the company asked police to go to her Woodside, Queens, home.

This is a shock.

Back when I was younger and much more stupid, I listened to WABC talk radio. It was very Right-wing and Lynn Samuels stood out as the token Leftie.

And she was thoroughly unapologetic about it.

That’s not to say all her positions were reasonable, but they were a hell of a lot more compassionate and reality-based than the spouters who surrounded her timeslot.

As time went on, I found myself agreeing more and more with her. Not that she wore me down, but the world as presented by the Right did not match up with the real world. And Lynn Samuels was very real-world.

She made a difference in lives, whether she believed it or not.

Rest in peace, Lynn.
