Using A Single Word To Hide The Truth

Number of the Week: Half of U.S. Lives in Household Getting Benefits

The increase in recent years is likely due in large part to the lingering effects of the recession. As of early 2011, 15% of people lived in a household that received food stamps, 26% had someone enrolled in Medicaid and 2% had a member receiving unemployment benefits. Families doubling up to save money or pool expenses also is likely leading to more multigenerational households. But even without the effects of the recession, there would be a larger reliance on government.

The iPad Mini Will Mean The Death of eInk

Oh yes it will!

Let me get the basic objections out of the way:

1) eInk devices are cheaper
2) eInk devices are lighter
3) eInk devices can be read outside
4) eInk devices don’t hurt eyes

None of that matters to the general buying public.

If it did, we’d see eInk devices literally everywhere. We wouldn’t see a single iPad or Android tablet anywhere used for reading. Amazon would not have sold as many Kindle Fire (estimated at five million) as they did. The company that produces eInk would send out press releases about possible shortages due to overwhelming manufacturing demand. Plastic Logic would still be in the game.

You eInk users are a minority that will be ignored.

Can you believe it?

What’s next? Outlawing hats and sunglasses so the facial recognition cameras of the Police State can database all of us as we pass them on the public streets?

How about requiring licenses for hoodies? You think the Orthodox Jews will like being told to shave off their facial hair for a good clean face-rec shot?

This shit has to stop.

Why Is WordPress Doing This?

Click = big

I’m beginning to wonder of they’re going slightly mad over at WordPress.

If you’re seeing that footer overlay on this blog, I want you to know that’s not my doing.

WordPress tends to change things without warning. Most of the time, they just do it and then a day later give an explanation in a post.

Meanwhile, I’ve repeatedly asked for a “Place All” button for photos — so I won’t have to manually place over a hundred photos in a post — and they seem to think their crappy Gallery is somehow adequate for such a task. It is not. People like to scroll. They don’t want some goddammed software giving them a slideshow that can go tits-up on them. Neither do I!

Anyway, if you’re seeing that stupid overlay, I didn’t request it or put it there. And if I can find a way to get rid of it, I will.

If you’re not seeing that, then never mind.
