New York Times: Meg Whitman’s Toughest Campaign: Retooling H.P.
I don’t think I’ve ever read a more insulting piece about a company’s CEO in my entire tech life. Insulting to users.
Some choice quotes before I go off like a rocket:
She believes that mobile devices, cloud computing and Big Data will re-energize H.P.
From Ms. Whitman’s high vantage, the trends of mobile, cloud and Big Data resolve into a single phenomenon: the creation and exploitation of Information Everywhere. H.P. makes consumer devices, in addition to servers for the cloud, sensor networks, and analysis software. Instead of standing at the confluence of the phenomenon, though, H.P. is on the sidelines, with most of the parts but none of the integration to make it a leader.
Boldfaced emphasis added by me
What the hell? What the bloody hell?
If HP is sitting on the “sidelines,” it’s Whitman’s own damn fault!

iPhone 5 Expected With LTE, but iPad Mini Launch Unlikely: Jefferies
By Oct. 10, Misek said he predicts an invitation for an iPad Mini launch event will be mailed out to the media, followed by the formal announcement of the device by mid-October and culminating with the launch of the iPad Mini at the end of that month.
Boldfaced emphasis added by me.
If no invite arrives by 10/10, then it’s all been a hoax.
A Commenter made me go check the website I saw the free stream of episode one last week.
It now displays this:
Basically, if you’re not in Denmark, go away.
And I was really looking forward to seeing episode 2 today!

Tom Piccirilli To Undergo Brain Surgery
As some of you know, Tom Piccirilli hasn’t been feeling himself lately — headaches, etc. He was admitted into the hospital Thursday after undergoing an MRI. On Friday, Tom learned that the culprit is a brain tumor. He’ll be undergoing surgery this Monday to have the tumor removed, followed by weeks of chemo and radiation treatments.
This is awful news.
I’ve mentioned Piccirilli three times before (here, here, and here). He’s one of those writers you just can’t go wrong with, no matter what book of his you pick up in whatever genre.
His medical bills are bound to be financially devastating, no matter how much any insurance he has might cover. He may be debilitated a while too, unable to create more work — a terrifying prospect for all writers.
I’m not asking you to help him out. Reading his work is something that’ll add to your life — and the royalties he’ll earn from those sales will help him continue.

Despite telling me yesterday it would take him “several days” to do it, I check into Twitter today and get this:

I don’t know if this sticker is part of the protest, but it’s apt:
