Windows 8 Tablet With PDF

This shows the actual built-in PDF app that I tried during the Asus event:

That looks to be a conventional PDF, likely created from MS Word. I wonder how it would handle highlighting on a Google Books PDF, which is all-image, not characters.

I keep floundering remain undecided between a full Windows 8 tablet or an Android tablet. The upcoming Archos Platinum series and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 have tempered my Windows 8 tablet enthusiasm — for now.

I might wind up sitting out the initial round of Windows 8 tablets to wait for better, faster, cheaper later this year.

Take The Grunt Work

Calcutta girl who fled home & marriage at 17 returns as millionaire US innovator

I worked for four years with Pauling till he died in 1994. It’s a funny story how I met him. He was 90 years old then, sitting in the laboratory with a cap on, when I went up to him and said: “Sir, I have a 4.0 GPA with straight ‘A’s. What does it take for a student to work in your lab?”

He looked up and said: “Well, one has to have dark skin, dark hair and marry me!” So I asked him: “When?” He started laughing. He told me that he didn’t have much work there but needed someone to clean the petri dishes. So I told him: “I will clean the petri dishes. I would just be happy to be around you.”

Boldfaced emphasis added by me.

How many people would have been insulted to be offered cleaning petri dishes?

“But you don’t understand! Look at my grades! How can you ask me to do such shit work? I want to do something that matters!”

That is why you fail.

A 128GB iPad Is So 2011

Two years ago I published this: 2015: The One-Terabyte iPad.

I roadmapped what I thought the increase in iPad storage capacity would be:

2010: 64GB
2011: 128GB
2012: 256GB
2013: 512GB
2014: 750GB
2015: 1TB

Today: Apple ready to release additional iPad model; likely 128GB version

Really, I feel a bit insulted that Apple is only now going to release a 128GB iPad, which will likely cost a $100 premium over their 64GB model — that’s how Apple’s pricing works.

You know, it could well be that another factor that accounts for the rise of Android (see here and here) is that people can add more storage on their own.

Apple, it’s time to add a damn microSD card slot to your devices.
