Chuwi V88 Notes From The Net #2

Chuwi has official forums [Google English]. Registration is required to access all content in posts. Note that, at least in my case using Firefox, I couldn’t register or log in using Google Translate. I had to log into the native Chinese site to see everything in posts (like embedded photos) and keep a separate Google Translate tab open to understand the text.

Google English: Chuwi V88 April 25th firmware download — note that a user says the installer is infected with a virus. There also seems to be two versions of this firmware and the Google Translate is too ambiguous to decipher.

Even though the battery in the Chuwi V88 says it’s 4270mAh, Chuwi has its engineers explain — through math I don’t understand — how it’s actually 5000mAh worth of electricity as used by the device [Google English]: Chi is the official Detailed V88 battery capacity of 5000 mA. If I understand the Google Translate correctly, the battery is also sourced from Samsung.

Here are some sample back camera photos from this post [original Chinese, register and log in to see]; click to enlarge:

And via Windows here’s the back camera’s EXIM info:

That post also has interior photos of the V88, like this one:

And I don’t believe this AnTuTu score until an owner reports it:

There’s also in that post something about a magnetic cover from Chuwi but Google Translate is too ambiguous, although it sounds somewhat like an Apple Smart Cover.

This link [Google English] seems to deal with rooting a Rockchip 3188 device.

It’s not easy dealing with Chinese forums with Google Translate. You try to make sense of this:

Second time to buy a urine bag buried between Chung send all child charging line (sec-to try tight with urine bag charge to charge and Well)

And that’s discussing the Chuwi V88. Go figure! (It seems to be about AC adapters and charging… I think.)

In that forum, the protruding microSD card is mentioned as falling out (hilariously translated as “taking a walk”) and that design flaw is an “incurable disease”! (I still say put a piece of tape over it. Ugly but it should keep the card!)

  1. Virus is just a false positive in the package, one of the RK tools trips it, they are clean, secondly the two firmwares are for the V88 with Bluetooth and one without, see my site for a full flashing tutorial and English versions of the flashing tools.
