Many-Named iPad Mini Clone Gets Astroturfing

The Cimi/Simi/Sago X8 gets the astroturf treatment [Google English and Google English].

This tablet isn’t going to make it out of China due to it being the clone-iest clone of them all. I note it just so people won’t wonder if I’ve ever heard of it.

A few boring and annoying photos after the break.

MultiWindow Android For ICOO Fatty 2

NewAIWLogo072813

Aside from the Chuwi V88 (original and “Ice Green” models) and the Vido Mini One, potential buyers now have a third choice to consider for MultiWindow Android: The ICOO Fatty 2, which in two advertorial posts [Google English and Google English] announced its forthcoming upgrade availability..

iFive Mini 3: Rockchip 3188 CPU

After too many advertorial posts pimping a tablet without revealing its CPU, Five Technology finally announced their still seen-only-in-renders tablet will have a quad-core Rockchip 3188 CPU [Google English].

As can be seen in the above render, it will also have a customized launcher — it’s called the iFive Skin 2.5. Ugh.

Xiaomi Punk’d The Press: No Tablet Yet

Despite the Xiaomi-fed hype that strongly hinted at the introduction of a tablet today in China, instead what the company released was the long-rumored “Red Rice” phone [Google English].

RedRice01

To me it looks like a cross between a shrunken Nexus 7 and Nokia’s design style.

This is Xiaomi’s “low-end” phone, their equivalent to the rumored “iPhone 5c.”

It has a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 IPS screen, uses a 1.5GHz MediaTek 6589T (T for Turbo) CPU, and has 1GB of RAM and other phone-like stuff that I really don’t give a damn about especially since they misled everyone to think a tablet was being introduced today. It will go on sale August 12th with an initial production run of ten million.

Pipo Ultra U8 iPad Mini Clone Gets A Review

The Pipo Ultra U8 uses a Rockchip 3188 and has 2GBs of RAM, putting it in the same league as the Chuwi V88 and Vido Mini One. Its distinguishing features are a front-facing speaker, a rear camera with flash, a gyroscope, and an optional customized UI. Given the ambitions of Pipo’s founder — as seen in this video by Charbax — will the Pipo Ultra U8 do well under review?

Xiaomi Tablet Unveiling July 31st?

XiaomiRumorRender073013

Xiaomi has a product unveiling happening in China tomorrow, July 31st. Several tech blogs, like this one [Google English], are speculating — based on hints from Xiaomi itself — that tomorrow will see the introduction of its rumored and highly-anticipated tablet.

This tablet was originally rumored to be a 4:3 screen like the iPad Mini, but the latest rumors point to a conventional 16:9 or 16:10 seven-inch screen. Still, if the render above proves true, it will cause a stir in the world of tablet design.

“Ice Green” Chuwi V88 Pre-Sale

ChuwiIG001

Chuwi has added this new model to their site.

Two advertorial posts [Google English and Google English] announce pre-sales will begin on July 30th (which it already is in China). These posts — unlike Chuwi’s own site — state that the new V88 will have MultiWindow Android included. There are links in those posts to Chuwi’s TMall store for those adventurous enough to pre-order direct from China.

With this model imminent, I will again have to resume slogging through Chinese forums for the detailed astroturfing posts that will pimp the hell out of it in staged photos. So standby for more in the days or weeks ahead.

Lastly, I wish they had called this this the V89 or V88G. Having two models with the same name is search engine hell.

Chinese iPad Mini Clone Notes #10

Another post so soon because we have some interesting developments out of China. The most important news will lead off this post and then we’ll degrade into the recent reviews that have been published.

In the last post I mentioned the absence of Onda in Chinese tech blogs. Well, the day after Onda popped up in an advertorial post about its 3.2 firmware update and power consumption [Google English]. This advertorial has been running for several brands and seems to contain charts supplied by CPU maker AllWinner (a similar advertorial has run for Colorfly’s U781 clone, see Google English).

The big Onda news is word of an Onda V819mini [Google English]. It will be thinner than the V818 mini — and that’s all we know so far. Likely it will use the A31s CPU again. What’s more interesting is their upcoming V975 quad-core, which will be a 9.7-inch tablet with iPad Mini-like narrow bezels. No other details yet. But if Onda beats the iPad 5 to market with slim bezels, Apple won’t have a case to prevent its sale outside of China due to “trade dress.” Onda will have the legal high ground.

Pierre Cardin iPad Mini Clone

Wait. What? WTF?

Yes, it’s true. In this post-modern era of brand name licensing whoredom, there is actually a Pierre Cardin-branded Android tablet.

A sorry-ass website (for a company I wouldn’t be surprised no longer exists) pimps the original one, which has this sad yet hilarious copy under its Trade tab:

… the Pierre Cardin Tablet PC is aimed at brand conscious women aged 18 to 34, technology novices not traditionally targeted by PC manufacturers. This makes it an ideal product to add to retailers existing ranges to attract these cash-rich fashionistas into their stores.

“Cash-rich fashionistas”?!!? Someone needs a slap.

Anyway, because YouTube Search is so damned atrocious — which doesn’t seem to bother its parent company which, you know, made its reputation based on search — I didn’t see this video until tonight.

Now you can too, after the break.
