Archos 80b Platinum: Not Recommended Even By Archos Fans

ArchosPlatinum80bSplash

Original French: Test de l’Archos 80b Platinum

Google English: Testing the Archos 80b Platinum

As expected, it has an 8-inch 1024 x 768 IPS screen, 1.6GHz Rockchip 3188 CPU, just 1GB of RAM, and a rotten 8GBs of internal storage (of which only ~5GBs is free).

The cameras are crap, the IPS screen looks sketchy in their photos (but they insist it’s OK), the software seems unoptimized (actually a minor point), and WiFi reception falls off a cliff due to the all-metal back. All that for 149 Euros — or US$199.

Their brutal bottom line — and this is a site by Archos fans all about Archos:

Acer Iconia Tab A1-810 is only € 10 more with better cameras, GPS and more, and a cover …

This has to be one of the most frustrating tablets I’ve ever followed. Back in January 2013 at CES, Archos wowed people with this. It took them eleven freaking months to get this out. In that time, the entire tablet market has changed and there are better tablets that offer a higher value per dollar spent.

I cannot recommend this tablet to anyone.
