There are no legacies in this life, are there? No monuments, no histories. Just the water. It pays us and then it claims us. Swallows us whole as if we’ve never been here at all.
The finale left me speechless. I had to take several minutes afterwards to think about it.
Now comes the torment waiting for the second season.
The rest of you have between now and then to see what we’re all talking about.
Do it.

My jaw literally dropped, and I thought, “they’ve out-Game of Throned Game of Thrones!”
Amazing show. I hope Starz gets a clue and greenlights more episodes per season. (Not too many more, don’t want the quality to go down.)
That should be a Hollywood (and publishing) mantra.
Mike, I’ve watched this based on your recommendation. I almost gave up during pilot because all the characters were unrealistically *pretty* and (it just didn’t smell real enough) and there were some cheesy moments like obligatory lesbian scene. Upon forcing myself to watch episode 2 it slowly started growing on me and by the season finale I was really enjoying this!
In my opinion, creating this many good subplots without watering down is this shows greatest strength!
People talk about the “prettiness” of the pirates too much, I think. This is a reflection of our time. No one would look at stars with bad teeth, even fake ones. Such overlays would also make it difficult for them to say their lines. I’m glad you stuck with it it and liked it.
