Matthew McConaughey portrays real-life person Ron Woodruff, who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1985 …
… and told, based on his advanced condition, he’d probably be dead within just thirty days.
Rather than give in to despair, he fights for his life — and winds up helping the lives of many others.
Jared Leto portrays a transgender woman …
… a role I must note that Parker Marie Molloy took issue with.
This is an excellent movie. It’s too bad we sometimes require misery to force us to see our common humanity.
One observation: Had all of it taken place these days, Woodruff would have died in prison or as a victim of an armed raid. The sedate confiscation of his goods back then wouldn’t happen today — a militarized SWAT team would be sent in.
