That new tablet will come in a Windows version, according to a Weibo communique Chuwi issued today:
Chinese:
[给力]驰为VX8 3G通话平板,安卓、win8双系统,可以互刷!办公、休闲、娱乐全不误。尽享8寸通话平板无所不能的乐趣。[鼓掌]
Google Translate:
[To force] Chi VX8 3G call tablet, Android, win8 dual system, each brush! Office, leisure and entertainment the whole worthwhile. Enjoy 8-inch tablet omnipotent call fun. [Applause]
Boldfaced emphasis added by me.
“Brush” is Google Translatese for “flash.” So Chuwi is saying the firmware can be flashed from Android to Windows 8.1 — or, more likely, there will be two versions of the tablet (like the Teclast X89HD).
Because if Chuwi has any damn brains, they won’t want to subject people to the same download-and-flash nightmare Teclast X98 3G and Onda V819i/v975i owners have been through.
And I hope by this point, regular readers are savvy enough to understand that when “dual system” is used, it means the guts of the tablet is capable of using Android or Windows 8.1 — not dual-booting them.
Here’s a new pic Chuwi gave out:
Full specs have yet to be revealed.
And yes, this brings up the question: Will there be a Windows version of the Chuwi V99i? No announcement … yet.
Same-day update: IMP3Net has published press material from Chuwi giving a few of the specs [Google Translate]. It has GPS. No mention of Windows — because Chuwi sent out it out before the Weibo reveal, above.
Unlikely that it’s dual boot. Chances are it will be like Teclast and recently Onda like. Comes in two flavors of OSes. Windows and Android but no dual boot.
