Google Books PDF Test: LG G3 Phone

Spec-wise, the LG G3 phone is a monster: A quad-core Snapdragon 801 running at 2.5GHz, 3GBs of RAM, and a 5.5-inch quad-HD screen at 1440 x 2560 pixels.

Reality does not match theory.

The phone has no buttons on any of its narrow sides! Apparently there’s a button in the back, but it did fuck-all for me; basically asking me to adjust brightness (or maybe speaker volume). I found myself stranded in one app after the other with no way to get back to the Home screen because the bottom commandbar is set to disappear after an interval. It was a miserable experience doing this test.

And performance with the latest version of Foxit Mobile PDF was simply miserable, as this video shows:

What the hell does it take to get good PDF performance out of Android?

This was the special “iOS edition” of The American Magazine, pared down to enough pages to test without requiring a massive download. With iOS on an Retina iPad Mini, it goes like this:

Why the hell doesn’t Android do that? (Yes, I know what iOS developers have said; but still!)

hmm LG G3 is not known for being a great performer anyway… in fact it struggles a lot even in simple games like temple run… so not surprising it struggles rendering pdf… its specs are not good enough for a 2k display … that’s why note 4 and any other 2k display phones are using a better cpu like the snapdragon 804

  2. hmm strange, I have got an unbeliveable smoothness on tegra3-asus-tf201 in google books and, of course a shit on v975m
looking forward to see a17-a57 mediateks, new 64bit qualcomms, which have to fix all these problems

LG G2 is a great last year flagship. The problem is that the improvement in the chip is not enough to handle the increased resolution.
The back button has pros and cons. It takes getting used to and the overall impression depends on how you use the phone.
