HP To Give Away Windows Tablet In Cereal Boxes

Well, not quite. But close.

HP joins Microsoft’s Chromebook and Android assault with $199 laptop and $99 Windows tablet

HP is launching a 7-inch HP Stream 7 tablet for just $99, and an 8-inch version for $149 in November. Both are powered by Intel chipsets, but the company isn’t revealing any additional specifications for this pair of super low-cost Windows tablets. They’re likely to be very low specification devices, but Microsoft is also throwing in a year-long subscription to Office 365 Personal with 1TB of OneDrive storage and 60 minutes of Skype calls each month. HP’s 8-inch tablet also includes 200MB of free LTE data each month with no contract for the life of the device.

No specs cited.

But I’d bet that by the time they get in the few stores that will still allow HP in, China will have superior tablets for the same damn price. I wouldn’t be surprised if the CUBE iWork 7 already matches the un-specced HP tablet, and it’s just US$65.

HP, still How Pathetic.

  1. Look out for the partnership deal with McDonald’s this Christmas. A tablet with each Kid’s Meal.

  2. Both 7 and 8 inch tablets have NO SD card and are 1GB/16GB. Pathetic is truly the best description. It rings true that all the major manufacturers are just flooding the market with this crap instead of improving on the previous generation. http://liliputing.com/2014/09/hp-stream-7-stream-8-tablets-coming-november-100.html

So, if you want an 8 inch Windows tablet, its either buy one of the previous generation models or trust in the quality of one of the Chinese manufacturers. I’ve heard bad things about Teclast, so those are off the table. In the next week I will buy my first Windows tablet from the list below:

    – iFive MX2 (8″) $219
    – Ramos i9s (8.9″) $225
    – Dell Venue Pro 8 (8″) 64GB $225
    – Lenovo Miix 2 8 (8″) 64GB $200
    – Chuwi VX8 3G Windows (8″) ??

I’m posted this for anyone on here looking at Windows tablets. Not Mike. :) From what I understand, the build quality of the Ramos i9s is pretty good, and you can buy it from several sites running Android 4.4 right now. The tablet is said to run Windows, and there are even a couple sites selling it with Windows (I would hold off on that until we see how it actually performs on the tablet).

The iFive MX2 has a great render on all the sites, with a nice resolution and supposed good battery life. I haven’t found any real information other than ads for it – even on Chinese forums – yet. I’m pretty interested in this tablet and am hoping that it has good build quality.

In the end, I’ll likely just buy the DV8P. After all, I’m a senior manager there, and I know I’ll get a good deal and service will be a non-issue. I haven’t heard a peep from our company other than the new Android tablet we are selling soon.

  3. ASUS has a new 8 inch Windows tablet for $100 less than their note version. This one has no digitizer stylus. Still no HDMI port. :( http://liliputing.com/2014/09/asus-vivotab-8-windows-tablet-coming-in-october-for-199.html
