Xiaomi Welcomes The Nexus 9

Xiaomi went against the prevailing trend in Android tablets and bet on a 4:3 aspect ratio over the majority of 16:9 and 16:10 tablets sold in the global market.

With the release of the Nexus 9 with a 4:3 aspect ratio, Google has validated Xiaomi’s bet.

A variety of Xiaomi accounts have reacted.

Some people might say there were iPad Mini clones before Xiaomi jumped in. While that’s true, the companies that produced them didn’t have the scale of Xiaomi and so had no influence in the overall market — in China or outside of China. And all of them went with domestic chips — Rockchip, Actions, Allwinner — while Xiaomi went outside for the Nvdia K1 CPU. Xiaomi going with 4:3 was a significant event in Android tablet evolution.

  3. I’d say Google is more interested in bringing games to Android. Simplifying iPad ports by using the same screen format is a good bet for that.
