I was lightly browsing the Teclast forum — something time doesn’t permit me to do daily or even regularly — and I came across a post about using the Xposed framework on a rooted Teclast X98 3G (use Chrome or drop link into Bing Translator).
Xposed allows many modifications to a rooted Android device.
One of the most intriguing is enabling multiwindowing. I wondered if this would work on any Chinese tablets — and it turns out it can.
As for the X98 3G, the post itself is ambiguous and links to another post that demonstrates its use on a different Teclast tablet (one with a 1920 x 1200 screen). Machine translation implies it might not work on a certain firmware version.
This is what Xposed multiwindowing looks like:
Just about every informative post on the Teclast forum is locked, requiring registration and then replying to the post to see the hidden content. This keeps important information mainly locked in China, shutting out the rest of the world.
If Teclast ever intends to get serious about international expansion, they’re going to have to change that behavior. And also mirror important information from the forums in plain English translations.
Teclast also has to be more communicative about firmware releases other than promoting them on the forum. It doesn’t help people outside of China make a buying decision if it’s not clear, for example, whether or not a stable, finished firmware has been released with the split-screening Teclast recently promoted.
