Xiaomi has lured away from Sina Tech Chen Tong. Tong will be a vice president in charge of media “content” strategy and acquisitions for Xiaomi (which includes the Mi TV).

Reuters has this: China’s Xiaomi to invest $1 billion to expand internet TV content

With SARFT interfering in the Internet TV market, Xiaomi might be looking for a way to bypass the latest restrictions on “foreign content” (which goes beyond just set-top boxes into all of Internet-delivered video). If they acquire production companies located outside of China, is the content they produce no longer “foreign”?
