Tested subsequently with: Foxit PDF, iBooks, GoodReader, Documents. Documents seems to use hardware rendering, which made it the best performing overall. GoodReader uses it’s own swipe mechanic, which felt less responsive to me than iOS’ default.

I didn’t know it was possible to do a screen recording that way. I’ve always wanted to have that on iPhone. Does Emu4iOS require jailbreak?
It doesn’t, it was painless to install.
The recording was a bit of an experiment, the frame rate is not great but I think it’s good enough to compare the PDF performance.
