ZOL Reviews The Nexus 9

This makes for an interesting contrast, reading a review at a China tech site of an American-branded tablet we’re now mostly familiar with [Google Translate].

This is the tablet ZOL bought in America at Best Buy.

I especially want people to see the review for this bit:

BAM! For some unknown reason, the Camera app won’t launch on the Nexus 9.

This is a problem we’ve seen with some China tablets. Now it strikes a tablet with an American brand name on it. Is there something about using Chinese as the tablet’s language that causes that?

They also run a bunch of benchmarks, of which I’m including just two here:

This is what I scored on Antutu.

What I noticed is that Foxit seems slower than it used to be and with lower quality rendering, even on other tablets. FBReader and Ebook reader are faster, with FBReader rendering well. However neither is as stable as Foxit. At the moment none are optimized for the new OS or hardware, so it’s not known what improvements will take place.

A couple of quick video tests, Nexus 9 using FBreader (which is pretty unstable). I turned off page animation since FBreader is slightly faster without it, and this reader won’t skip pages without completing the current page. So this is just a demo of potential if ever PDF decoding becomes optimized for this OS/hardware.
