Teclast is being a bit bombastic. This is still Android 4.x underneath the surface.
What Teclast has actually done is a revamped launcher with customized icons, Teclast-exclusive stores, and some customized applications.

Whoa. Two new business-class tablets!
And they’re dual-boot Android (Teclast OS?)/Windows 8.1.
Odd resolution split.
And there’s the keyboard. So the prior word of the X10HD must have been premature.
I wonder if these two models will eventually get the new Core-M CPU next year?
So there’s a wait until these are officially on sale and then propagate to other sellers — inside of China and to middlemen who sell internationally.
The graphics in the above Weibo are duplicates of earlier ones.

Owners of the Teclast P98 Air (C6V8 and C6V8 models) can download the Teclast OS firmware to try.
That concludes the Weibo announcement.
And I think after seeing all that, Teclast tablet owners should give up any hope of ever seeing pure-Google Android 5.0 with Material Design.
Clearly this is Teclast trying to pull away from the “homogenization” of Android tablets in China.
But I think this might hurt them outside of China.
Still, that new X10HD tablet seems to be something.
I think that to develop a complete OS is an effort in terms of knowledges and money investments that a company like Teclast could not afford alone.
It cannot be other than a deep customized launcher
Yes. Exactly.
Given that the “new OS” reeks of Material Design everywhere, my guess is that they’ve taken AOSP, themed the launcher, remade most of their added-value apps, themed lots of apps’ icons (probably for the Chinese ones, Western devs don’t like their icons messed with) and called it a day.
I’m intrigued by the stylus next to the X10HD. A tablet with a big, pen-ready screen with a nice resolution can make a killing for lots of graphics tablets users.
How can I get the new launcher?
It will be a firmware update.
ok, thank you.
It seems Teclast’s website is not accessible here in Australia, is that true, or is something else going on? I have an x98 3g.
China websites have a record of being unreliable. I don’t know if that’s poor maintenance or the Great Firewall, but even Weibo has become unreachable at times (other times, their templates blow up and the site is unusable). Keep trying.
