Dell Venue 8 7000/7840 Can Be Rooted, Get Android 5.0

Just snagged the Dell Venue 8 7840…wow

I grabbed one of these the other day and really love it too. Just wanted to let you guys know that I was able to get it rooted with this method :

[. . .]

Well, apparently I can’t copy links because I have less than 10 posts. Google “intel android devices root temp cwm” and it will be the first XDA post that shows up.

And that’s at XDA: Intel Android Devices Root / Temp CWM Session

Or, there’s this: Dell Venue 8 7000 Unlock Bootloader Tutorial — and scrolling down reveals: Dell Venue 8 7000 Lollipop Update Tutorial!

While being able to put Android 5.0 on it seems exciting, I have to wonder what it does to the RealSense camera. Does the new ROM deactivate the two depth cameras and leave the main rear camera as a conventional camera?

No new videos on YouTube. I wish someone who put Android 5.0 on it would do one.

A custom rom that is based on a different Android version may not be able to optimize the hardware as good as the one developed by the manufacturer. This depends also on whether the manufacturer releases the source code of its Android port to that device.
It’s easier when the custom rom is just a cleaner version of the same android version (i.e., removing some apps, replacing the recovery, changing the launcher, etc.).

It would be cool if it could be dual-booted with Windows and had 64GB eMMC. But that will be too consumer friendly which is a big no-no, so here we are.

The link at ‘unlock bootloader [dot] info’ is nothing but survey scam links. Nothing related to those surveys in any way ties into the source frame or the Javascript routine to permit file download. Believe me, I hated to learn about it, too.

The tethered CWM recovery procedure for Android x86 mentioned on the XDA forums also works for the Venue 8 7840. With that, you can install the latest SuperSU ZIP and get your system rooted. I even made a CWM NAndroid backup of my system on the first boot just to have that factory fresh reference. Also check on XDA for info about which version of Xposed works best.

Dell officially provides you tools, plain OS and step by step instructions to root your tab at one of their website I think or some thing like that (have done root like a year ago so dont remember exact site)
