Insignia Flex Elite 7.85: OMA ROM Investigation Continues

Over at the ARCTablet forum, OMA is still trying to unravel the mystery of why the lowerformat won’t work.

But he wants Linux tried

I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t have Linux on any damned thing in my place. I wouldn’t know how to even scramble to get any Linux working. Plus, I probably don’t have the damn free space for Linux anyway.

Eventually I will give up on this topic. I did with the ZTE Zmax, which still has zero permanent root and — despite a Comment left yesterday — no sign of an Android 5.x update.

I’m getting very pissed-off that the wrong road was taken with this tablet. It should be easily hackable. What’s the point of creating an inexpensive tablet just to lock it down? That makes no damn sense whatsoever. The goal should be to sell jillions of them by letting people flash whatever the hell they want onto it. Instead of delighting people, they’re kicking people in the face!

Also, hacking would allow people to fix that goddammmed stupid Rockchip-created bug where the screensnap icon stops working!

I’m beginning to understand why Hisense never released the Sero 8 Pro in the United States.

  1. You don’t even need to install Linux. You could use Cygwin. You can run Linux from an USB. It’s not a hurdle if you’re barely comitted to flash it, and it’s not OMA’s fault that the Windows support is so deficient.
