Archos Diamond Tab: iPad Mini Clone For The Unlucky

Archos Diamond Tab becomes official with 4G LTE support

It has a 7.9-inch 2,048×1,536 IPS touchscreen, a 5 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front-facing unit, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, and a 4,800 mAh battery. It’s powered by MediaTek’s MT8752 64-bit chipset boasting a 1.7 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU.

Archos as a company is a goddammed joke.

They’ve announced so many tablets and so many strategies and stuck their snout in so many things, it’s no longer possible for anyone with a brain to take this company seriously.

They pissed away their retail presence in America by flooding it with shitty tablets. This is another tablet that’ll never make it here. And since I don’t cover this company, I won’t see the eventual wails from suckers who buy this and find out it’s fall-apart shit with built-in flaws that’ll never be fixed.

Next!

Sony: No More Baloney

Android 5.1 Lollipop certified for Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra (19.4.A.0.180)

I have bashed Sony again and again for its stupid moves in the eBook and TV markets.

So it’s only fair that I praise them again and again for the recent moves they’ve been making with phones.

The T2 Ultra — which is hardly on sale anywhere any more — is going to be getting Android 5.1!

Whoever it is at Sony who is making these moves deserves a raise. He’s instilling customer confidence in their phone division. It seems the days of abandoning customers — at least with phones — are over.

Now, if only the upcoming Z5 Ultra was a six-inch screen instead of just 5.5-inches! Well, at least bring the C5 Ultra to the U.S.!

Instant Millionaires: Joseph E. Hrudka

InstantMillioniaresCover

I re-read that this week.

I was interested to follow-up on Joseph E. Hrudka. He became rich just about by accident and founded a company called Mr. Gasket. He was an example of someone who succeeded despite the common wisdom of the people surrounding him. School bored him, cars excited him. No one thought he’d ever amount to anything. Yet he showed them all.

Anyway, the follow-up was not a pretty picture. No Wikipedia entry, which is odd.

And this:

New Times: Gasket Case — a divorce from Hell
Biography — so brief
Mr. Gasket Inc. History — on a spammy site with a link sure to die
MR. GASKET – The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History

And yes, I recommend this book — and others by Max Gunther — very highly.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Models Get Hands-On

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0-inch hands-on

The only worthwhile thing in that collection of words:

For those wondering, the Galaxy Tab S2 8-inch goes on sale starting September 3rd with an MSRP of $399.99 for the base 32GB Wi-Fi only model.

So I can ignore Best Buy and the Samsung store until then.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7-inch hands-on & unboxing

Boasting an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing one, we’re pretty content with the tandem – more so when it’s still an ungodly sight to see someone capturing photos using a tablet.

Really, where the hell does that guy live? Come to civilization. People all over New York City are taking photos with tablets. Some people appreciate having such a large viewfinder. Stop being a Tech Snob.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0: US$399

Galaxy Tab S2 pre-orders in the US to begin today, 8-inch model starts at $399.99

As for pricing, the 8-inch model will start at $399.99 for the Wi-Fi model and the 9.7-inch model will be $499.99. Pricing for the LTE versions aren’t available, but they should cost $100 more than the Wi-Fi variants whenever they become available.

Samsung went for iPad-like pricing.

This is disappointing but no surprise.

Rockchip “Light Work OS” — Android 5.1 + Remix OS?

This is one the screwiest things I’ve seen come out of China…

Rockchip, to try to fend off the Wintel tablet assault, looks to have remixed the Remix OS and are calling it the “Light Work OS” [Google Translate].

The first tablet to have this is, strangely, the Pipo P9.
