Tablet Horse Race: iPad Pro, Pixel C, Surface Pro 4 Specs

Chart adapted from CNet. I deleted the MacBook Air column because it’s not a damn tablet.

Both the iPad Pro and the Surface Pro 4 should do very well.

The Pixel C will be a flop.

Seriously, Google does a flagship tablet when its OS still can’t do multiwindows? Is anyone in charge over there? Anyone at all? With an active intelligence?

Dame Stephanie Shirley

Dame Stephanie Shirley: Why do ambitious women have flat heads?

Dame Stephanie Shirley is the most successful tech entrepreneur you never heard of. In the 1960s, she founded a pioneering all-woman software company in the UK, which was ultimately valued at $3 billion, making millionaires of 70 of her team members. In this frank and often hilarious talk, she explains why she went by “Steve,” how she upended the expectations of the time, and shares some sure-fire ways to identify ambitious women …

Oh my god.

What an extraordinary woman!

If you need a dose of inspiration, watch the video at the link. Watch it even if you’re highly motivated!

Two things:

1) Why the hell didn’t I hear about her before today?

2) Why the hell isn’t the BBC doing a mini-series dramatizing her life? Or at least a multi-part documentary?! What a story!

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Officially EOLed

Sony Xperia and Android 6.0, Marshmallow

We will make Android 6.0, Marshmallow available for: Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4.

No Xperia T2 Ultra listed.

At least, to its great credit, Sony did update the T2 Ultra to Android 5.x.

But with the Xperia C5 Ultra not coming to the U.S., there’s no phone with a six-inch screen from Sony to replace the T2 Ultra. That’s a mistake.

Meanwhile, Sony is trying to figure out what its buyers want in terms of Android: Sony’s Concept for Android: Marshmallow edition

Blu Pure XL Superphone Sales Delayed

Thanks to George Parrott in Comments, who wondered why Amazon wasn’t yet listing it for sale.

According to Blu on Twitter:

I was real gung-ho on this phone but now wonder if that Super AMOLED screen is the best thing for me. It seems that I prefer IPS screens, which tend to offer better gradations when it comes to the color black. I’ve seen this mentioned as a problem when viewing videos before but, at post time, this is the only mention I can find:

AMOLED screens can have a black clipping problem where dark greys become black so that dark movies get really dark.

One of my tests revealed that clipping problem and it can really ruin a video.
