The iPad Shuttle: Bring It!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9

Apple to launch 7.85-inch iPad in 2012, say sources

However, in order to cope with increasing market competition including the 7-inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and the launch of large-size smartphones from handset vendors, Apple has been persuaded into the development of 7.85-inch iPads, the sources indicated.

A lot can happen between now and next September.

And this report could also be entirely wishful thinking.

But I still hope for a smaller iPad.

More Phony Doom Numbers

The latest Doom shock shock shock:

Bail-out Bombshell: Fed “Emergency” Bank Rescue Totaled $29 Trillion Over Three Years

In reality, no less than $29.616 trillion is the total emergency assistance provided by the Fed to foreign and domestic entities during the Global Financial Crisis. Let’s repeat that: $29 trillion. This astounding number is over twice U.S. gross domestic product, the nominal value of all goods and services produced for the year 2010.

Puhleeze.

People are getting their knickers in a twist over a measly twenty-nine trillion?

Let me again link to something I highlighted back in 2008.

The truth is one quadrillion dollars.

The world has been looted.

We are all bankrupt.

R.I.P. Christopher Hitchens, Writer

Vanity Fair: In Memoriam: Christopher Hitchens, 1949–2011

NY Times: Polemicist Who Slashed All, Freely, With Wit

He also professed to have no regrets for a lifetime of heavy smoking and drinking. “Writing is what’s important to me, and anything that helps me do that — or enhances and prolongs and deepens and sometimes intensifies argument and conversation — is worth it to me,” he told Charlie Rose in a television interview in 2010, adding that it was “impossible for me to imagine having my life without going to those parties, without having those late nights, without that second bottle.”

Boldfaced emphasis added by me.

Guardian: Christopher Hitchens: tributes and reactions

“Right at the very end, when he was at his most feeble as this cancer began to overwhelm him, he insisted on a desk by the window – away from his bed in the ICU,” [Ian McEwan] said. “Took myself and his son to get him into that chair – with a pole and eight lines going into his body – and there he was, a man with only a few days to live, turning out three thousand words to meet a deadline.”

Boldfaced emphasis added by me.

He understood his inevitability. And he did not rail against it. He used it. He was a writer.

And he was also a man:

Believe Me, It’s Torture
