Another Teclast P98 3G Model: 八 核

Teclast’s marketing people need a slap in the face.

They’ve just introduced a second model named “Teclast P98 3G” — with “八 核” appended to it to distinguish it from the already-available “Teclast P98 3G” [Google Translate].

If you’re confused, good. We’re on the same page!

What does “八 核” mean? Eight-core.

The new Teclast P98 3G 8-Core has a 9.7-inch Retina-class screen, an octa-core MediaTek 8392 CPU with a peak frequency of 1.7GHz, 2GBs of RAM, 16GBs of internal storage, microSD card slot, microUSB port (OTG), 2MP front and 13MP back cameras, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, 8,000mAh battery, and SIM card slot for 3G (China-compatible with limited compatibility in Europe and probably none in America). Android 4.4.2 with the tUI skin. There is no HDMI-out port.

Here’s a chart of the specs of the original Intel-based P98 3G compared to the new MediaTek-based Teclast P89 3G 8-Core, with the main differences highlighted in green (click to enlarge):

Notice that the MediaTek version is lighter, narrower (thinner portrait bezels), has a somewhat smaller battery and a later version of Android (4.4.2). And don’t ignore that OVA-supplied 13MP back camera.

If this isn’t confusing enough, stand by for even more. Teclast might have renamed the T97 Air to the P98 Air. That one, based on the octa-core Allwinner A80 CPU, has yet to be officially announced even though new rumor articles now refer to it under the new “P98 Air” label.

Both P98 models have that Tyrant Gold (Champagne) color. Teclast seems to think it’s classy. Here’s a free clue for Teclast: It’s not!

At post time, there was no Tmall pre-order page available.
