While they rest, why not download to your tablet from the Internet Archive a PDF copy of An authentic account of the Chinese commission, which was sent to report on the Great Exhibition: wherein the opinion of China is shown as not corresponding at all with our own (1851), from which the above caricature is taken. It’s a bizarre and bloody tale, and at less than fifty pages it can be read quickly, even though it’s all in rhyme(!).
