No IQ Wanted

Overqualified and Unemployable

Sally had applied for a job at a college teaching the computer language she’d been writing about for years. In fact, the college was using her book as the textbook for the course. But they wouldn’t hire her. Why? She didn’t have a Master’s degree.

And:

It gets worse. Sally wanted to work for a local organization that has a tendency to hire young people at low starting salaries. When she applied, she even offered to work at that low salary. And she was turned down.

I know why. Young people are inexperienced and far more likely to do what they’re told instead of tapping into experience to suggest improvements as they work. Employers don’t want smart, helpful people. They want drones — bodies to fill seats, push pencils, and get a job done without questioning what they’re told to do.

Yep.

Xiaomi Redmi Note Pro Vs. Huawei Ascend Mate 7

Weibo:

Earlier this week someone at Huawei said that a 720p screen was good enough for a phone. That even a 1080p screen might be too much — and that a 2K screen was absolutely unnecessary because the human eye couldn’t tell the difference between it and 1080p, plus it would drain the battery too much.

Well, that set off a small firestorm at Xiaomi because they saw it as a criticism of their new Redmi Note Pro.

I’ll spare everyone the drama involved but the chart after the break is Xiaomi’s nuke lobbed at Huawei.

Malware Delay

CaligariMasthead

An increasingly-slow start-up made me finally bite the bullet to deep-scan my notebook. Three Trojans found.

It took five hours to do that scan.

Now it’s doing a boot-time scan that’ll likely take another several hours. I’m out of action until the notebook is cleansed.
