Early Word On Fixes For New Twitter

Updated at end of post!

Second update at end of post!

I don’t know if all the exposure my blog post got led to this. Probably not.

Update: Here’s the blog post explaining it: About that slowness on Twitter…

It might be too early to tell, but right now I’ve been hammering on New Twitter with Opera 11 again and it’s all been fast and beautifully smooth, as it was months ago. I will switch back to Opera 11 again from Firefox and give it all another shot in the morning.

Update 2: It’s the next morning. Started the day with Opera 11 and I’ve used New Twitter as I typically do. The jittering that was driving me crazy is gone! Infinite scrolling is smooth and I’m not having a ton of tweets drop in to lose my place while scrolling, as it had been doing. So, I’m ditching Firefox again for the better overall speed of Opera 11.

Kindle Books Update As Opt-In

I got this email from Amazon today:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

We’re writing about your past Kindle purchase of Deadly Sanctuary by Sylvia Nobel. The version you received contained some errors that have been corrected.

An updated version of Deadly Sanctuary (ASIN:B0046H9KM2) is now available. It’s important to note that when we send you the updated version, you will no longer be able to view any highlights, bookmarks, and notes made in your current version and your furthest reading location will be lost.

If you wish to receive the updated version, please reply to this email with the word “Yes” in the first line of your response. Within 2 hours of receiving the e-mail any device that has the title currently downloaded will be updated automatically if the wireless is on.

You can find more information about Kindle related topics at our Kindle support site below.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your business with Amazon.

Sincerely,

I don’t know what the errors might be and the anal part of me wonders if they would amount to a kind of collector’s item? On the other hand, it could simply be that the formatting was borked and that’s all that’s been fixed. Hmmmm.

This is the first time I’ve gotten such an email. And it must be for one of the hundreds of free Kindle books I’ve gotten — because so far I haven’t bought a single one. Or even a Kindle.

Kobo Books iPad Easter Egg Revealed!

Hmmm…. it was tweeted to me by Koboleaks!

Anyway, here it is, ready for all of you to duplicate and try!

I wonder if similar Easter Eggs exist in their Android and webOS software?

No, I refuse to pick up my desktop and shake it and turn it over to see if it’s in that too!

Bryant And May: More Books!

I’m populating my Firefox Speed Dial extension (highly recommended!). Taking things from my 2008 blog Bookmarks page and adding them. Finally catching up on sites I’ve neglected for months.

One of them was the blog of writer Christopher Fowler, who posted this great news today: Bryant & May, Rejuvenated!

It was touch and go for a while, but I can now announce that Britain will have not one but two new Bryant and May novels after all.

If you haven’t read Fowler’s Bryant & May series, you’ve been missing out on some great stuff. And it’s in eBook format, so go get it!

America 2011

“Why is the possibility of ending up in American custody a cognizable ground for resisting extradition?”

If Julian Assange ends up in the hands of the United States, he’ll be disappeared, locked away, forgotten, held incommunicado where the “pull-the-wings-off-flies” intelligence operatives will take turns giving him Drano enemas and using a staple gun on his head.

Get Text From An iPad Screensnap

@R-Hack: If an iPad app has no copy and paste feature, “OCR” a screen grab

The ever-cheery Rex Hammock has come up with a missing link for me: OCRing an iPad screensnap. I’d never considered that bit.
